The Westerville City Schools' number one priority is improving student achievement.
Otterbein College, ranked among the top ten liberal arts colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Reports, has always been a major influence on life in Westerville. It has made significant educational and cultural contributions to the community since 1847. With a student body of more than 2,500, the college offers six undergraduate and two graduate degrees.
ECONOMY & JOB MARKET
Over the years, carefully controlled development has made Westerville a model of self-sufficiency. Businesses of virtually every size can be found within the community. The Westar Center of Business is a 1,000-acre development that is considered to be one of the premier office developments in the Midwest. PARKS & RECREATION
The Westerville Parks and Recreation Department oversees 34 parks and facilities spread out over 435 acres. From picnicking along the banks of Alum Creek to swimming at central Ohio's largest pool complex – The Pool at Highlands Park – to bird watching at Heritage Wetlands, Westerville's vast park system offers recreational opportunities for everyone.
The nearby Hoover Reservoir features 3,272 acres of water and allows boating and sailing. It also offers rentals and a picnic area. There are a number of golf courses in the area including 13 public courses and three private facilities.
The city’s 96,600-square foot Community Center includes swimming pools with water slides and a lazy river, jogging, weight-lifting, basketball, volleyball, and fitness areas, public meeting areas, a youth game room, and a "Kids Wait Room" child care area. The Senior Center offers a wide range of activities including travel, social programs, sports and fitness, creative arts, health and wellness, continuing education, special interests and support services.
CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS
Cultural activities abound in Westerville. The college's art, theater and music programs are favorites of residents. The Westerville Civic Symphony and the Curtain Players are community-based performers whose concerts and productions enrich young and old throughout the year. The Westerville Music and Arts Festival, a tradition since 1973, is the highlight of the cultural summer. There are more than 70 service clubs in the city featuring people interested in everything from music and fine arts to service and homeowners.
